War Memorial Garden Update: Accessibility, Safety, and a Field of Poppies

Work is underway to enhance the cenotaph grounds at the east end of the Gazebo Park in Blairmore. The new plan will create level pathways, improves sightline, adds seating, and introduces a field of poppies as a memorial to our veterans.
As part of this work, we are removing one aging tree and a row of caragana shrubs. The tree was identified as a hazard. Mature trees of this type can develop internal decay, and large branches may fail during storms. The caragana hedge is being removed to open the space, improve views to the memorial, and support a simpler, more beautiful landscape.
The landscape plan replaces removed vegetation with native vegetation: new shade and flowering trees, native shrubs, and wildflowers, enhanced planting around the cenotaph plus seasonal poppy plantings that are easier to care for and suited to the memorial setting.
Please be mindful of construction during this time; follow signage and stay out of fenced areas.
