Road Maintenance

Road Maintenance

The Municipality strives to provide safe and reliable roads throughout the year so that everyone can get where they need to.  This involves maintaining approximately 99km of paved roadways and 65km of gravel roadways throughout the community.  Over the course of the year, the Transportation Department completes annual street sweeping, pot hole repair, asphalt patching, sidewalk replacement, gravel grading, and snow clearing.

Potholes

The Municipality utilizes a permanent bond asphalt cold mix to patch potholes.  We strive to repair them as soon as we can, however, sometimes we do not identify them right away.  If you notice a pothole in urgent need of repair, please call the Municipal office at 403-563-2220 and we will schedule an inspection.

Report a Non-Urgent Repair

Spring Street Sweeping

As the Street Sweeping crews move into the residential areas and from neighbourhood to neighbourhood, signs will be posted in the area the day before street sweeping is expected to commence. Residents are asked to move their vehicles from the road when street sweeping is happening in your area. We also ask if you could kindly pass the word on to any neighbours who may not have received notification that the sweepers are in the area.
Please keep an eye out for street sweeping equipment, and use caution when travelling near them.
Please obey any "No Parking" signs.

BOULEVARD CLEANING

Please be advised that boulevard cleaning will not be done by the Municipal crews as the equipment is too heavy to be on the boulevards and causes damage.
Please rake your boulevard prior to the scheduled sweeping.
For more information, please call the Operations Department at 403-563-2220.

Road Grading

The Municipality routinely grades the gravel roads to both reshape them and to remove the washboard that develops over time.  This ensures a quality surface for vehicles to travel on.  If you notice a roadway in need of repair, please report it through our online reporting system.

Road Closures

Periodically, the Municipality needs to close roads to complete repairs.  All efforts will be made to minimize the duration of the closures.

Are you planning on needing a temporary road closure for an event?  Please contact the Municipal office at 403-562-8833 for details.

Road Stabilization Program

Road Stabilization Program

The Municipality of Crowsnest Pass is now accepting applications for its Road Stabilization Program. This program supports the treatment of gravel roads using stabilization products that improve structural integrity. Please note: these are not dust suppression products, and while they may reduce dust, their primary purpose is road durability.

Key Program Details:

  • Applications are open now and accepted until June 30.

  • Treatments are expected to begin in July, after the rainy season.

  • Final decisions on which roads will be treated under the municipal budget are pending.

  • Residents may apply for road stabilization at any time.

Once finalized, approved treatment locations and timelines will be shared on this page and through municipal social media channels.
