United Riders of Crowsnest

The United Riders of Crowsnest (UROC) was formed to create trails and promote mountain biking in the beautiful Crowsnest Pass. If you have not been to southern Alberta, you are missing out. The club objectives are to encourage participation and promote responsible mountain biking practices, develop and maintain a sustainable mountain biking trail system through volunteer participation, support youth education and safety in biking, and represent the local biking community in the planning and management of recreational land. The United Riders of Crowsnest believe that good stewardship starts with the users of the trail system.

Hiking

With rugged peaks, alpine meadows, and historic sites woven through the landscape, Crowsnest Pass is a hiker’s paradise. Whether you're out for a short family walk or a full-day summit adventure, there's a trail for every pace and experience level.

Popular Trails Include:

  • Frank Slide Interpretive Trail – An easy, scenic loop through the debris field of Canada’s deadliest rockslide, with interpretive signs along the way.

  • North York Creek Plane Crash Trail – A moderate hike leading to the site of a 1946 RCAF crash, complete with scattered wreckage and sweeping views.

  • Turtle Mountain – A steep, challenging climb that rewards hikers with dramatic views and insight into the 1903 slide that reshaped the valley.

  • Window Mountain Lake – A popular alpine route with a turquoise lake nestled beneath cliffs—ideal for a summer day trip.

From ridgelines to river valleys, trails in the Pass offer breathtaking views and a sense of wild, open space. Many routes are also dog-friendly and lightly trafficked.

Trail Tip: Weather in the mountains can change quickly—bring layers, water, and good footwear. Check conditions and bear activity before heading out.

Fishing

Whether you're casting for cutthroat in a quiet mountain stream or fly-fishing beneath the peaks, Crowsnest Pass offers some of the best freshwater angling in Alberta.

The Crowsnest River is a favourite for fly-fishers, known for its clear water, scenic banks, and healthy populations of rainbow and brown trout. Nearby, you’ll also find productive waters in Lynx Creek, Allison Creek, and the Castle River system, with opportunities to catch cutthroat, brook trout, and bull trout (catch-and-release only).

Fishing in the Pass isn’t just about the catch—it’s about the experience. Quiet mornings, wide skies, and the sound of moving water make for a perfect day on the line.

Note: An Alberta fishing licence is required, and seasonal regulations apply. Visit mywildalberta.ca for up-to-date rules and licence information.
