Access to Information Requests

Requests for Information / ATIA

The Access to Information Act (ATIA) is the cornerstone of open, accessible, and accountable government for the people of Alberta.

The ATIA aims to strike a balance between transparency and the confidentiality required to ensure effective operation of government.

Principles of the Access to Information Act (ATIA)

  1. Any person has a right of access to the records in the custody or under the control of a public body subject to specific and limited exceptions.
  2. Allows individuals a right to access personal information about themselves, subject to specific and limited exceptions.
  3. Provides for independent reviews of decisions made by public bodies and resolution of complaints under the ATIA.

If you have a request for information from the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass please consider the following:

Proactive Disclosure

The Municipality will provide the following records electronically without the need to submit and access request:

  • Council minutes
  • Council packages
  • Board and Committee minutes
  • Bylaws
  • Policies
  • Audited Financial Statements
  • Your own records- payment history, receipts, applications etc..

Most current versions of these records are available on the website, if you are looking for older records you can contact the Communications Coordinator at (403) 562-8833 or documents@crowsnestpass.com.  If you are looking for items that don't fall under proactive disclosure, you may be asked to make a ATI Request.   To receive a paper copy of the record photocopying charges will apply.

Making a Access to Information (ATI) Request

To obtain access to records in the custody of the public body, Applicants will fill out an access request form, referred to as a "ATI Request" which must be received in writing (unless the Applicant requires an accommodation) and must provide enough detail to enable the public body to identify the record. Please fill out the form below and bring it into the Municipal Office with the $25.00 fee.   Alternatively, forms may be emailed to reception@crowsnestpass.com.

Please note: if your request is large or time consuming other fees may apply as per the ATIA Regulation.  You can request a quote from the ATIA Coordinator prior to submitting your form.  For more information or assistance filling out your form please contact the ATIA Coordinator at the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass.

The ATIA Coordinator in accordance with Section 36(1) of the ATIA Act will make every reasonable effort to respond to a request no later than 30 working days after receiving it.
