Wildlife Attractants

October 28 2015

Residents are reminded that bear season is upon us and leaving garbage out prior to garbage day attracts the bears into residential areas. This puts both humans and bears at risk.

Please note that warnings will no longer be issued and those in contravention of these Bylaws will immediately receive an infraction ticket.

As per Bylaw 863, 2013 Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Bylaw Section 7.4, “The owner or occupant of premises from which refuse is to be collected shall ensure refuse and recyclables are stored in an approved storage location at all times other than:… (b) when refuse receptacles are placed at the appropriate location for collection…no earlier than 6:00am on the day of collection and must be re-secured to an approved storage location no later than 7:00pm on the day of collection.”

And in accordance with Bylaw 897, 2014 Animal Control Bylaw Section 9.1 “No Owner or occupant of a premises shall place, store, permit or dispose of Animal Attractants outdoors in such a manner that they are accessible to wildlife.”

The fee for contravention of Section 9.1 of the Animal Control Bylaw is $250.00 and the fee for contravention of any provision of the Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Bylaw is liable for a fine of not less than one Hundred Dollars ($100.00) or not more than Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2500.00).
