Although the official wildfire season ends on October 31, a grass fire hazard can still occur in the Calgary Forest Area and the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass throughout the winter months.
If you are going to have a campfire, make sure to have water on hand or nearby. Don't use loose paper in your fire; wind can easily blow it away and start a wildfire. Keep your campfire away from overhanging branches and use caution during windy conditions. Please be cautious when burning or with campfires in and around areas of cured grass.
Before you leave your campfire, remember--soak it, stir it, soak it again.
WILDFIRE PREVENTION TIPS
Albertans are always asked to use caution when recreating within the Forest Protection Area:
- Clear debris from hot spots on your Off-Highway Vehicle.
- Ensure your campfire is out - Soak it, Stir it, Soak it Again.
