Details

The Crowsnest Museum is located in downtown Coleman National Historic Site in the former Coleman High School building. This historic site houses displays on both floors which visitors may tour at their leisure.

Visitors can discover the treasures on their own or have a staff member lead a guided tour.  The displays depict many areas of life in the Pass.  The main industry, mining, is well represented with artifacts from local mines including canvas helmets, mining lamps, and rescue equipment.   Several miniature models depict mining scenes.  Commercial ventures show the General Store, Blacksmith Shop, complete with a a large selection of tools, the Rex Theatre, which features a carbon arc projector, and the Post Office with its combination lock boxes.  The scaled down Gushul Photography Studio features Mr. Gushul's original camera and examples of his prolific work.

Scenes of life in the good old days are depicted in the Pioneer Room.  Authentic furniture and artifacts are displayed in the living room, kitchen, bedroom, front porch and one-room schoolhouse.  Individual display cases feature Army, Navy and RCMP uniforms as well as bridal gowns throughout the years.   Outdoors, you can view farming and fire fighting equipment.

The unique Fish and Wildlife Diorama is one of the most popular areas with the younger visitors.  Among the artistic backdrops, which feature local landscapes ranging from the foothills to rocky peaks, stand examples of many of the wild animals that inhabit the Pass.
A very unique display features downtown Coleman buildings circa 1920.

These exhibits are located on the spacious landscaped grounds. Visitors are welcome to enjoy their picnic lunches, in this park-like setting complete with sheltered tables, and colourful flower-lined walking paths.

Tours are available for seniors groups, schools, and youth groups. The museum is run by the Crowsnest Historical Society and its volunteers. The Gazebo Gift Store has many souvenirs, from magnets, postcards, and commemorative coins to stationery, books, and a variety of old fashioned toyrs and candies.
